What's Wrong With Your Current Skincare Routine That You Do Not Know?

September 05, 2021 3 min read

Unlike before, more people nowadays are getting more conscious about how their skin looks. Advertisements about skincare products are almost everywhere. People also developed their skincare routine. Some of them also failed to achieve their goals because they see no improvements in the shortest time possible. If you are one of those people, you must continue to take care of your skin. There might be just one step of skincare that you are missing. Find out what part of proper skin care you might have left out here:

Not using a Cleanser

It is not a skincare routine without cleansing. Using a good cleanser can remove dirt, oils, and toxic substances in your skin trapped in your pores. Without it, a bad condition of the skin may worsen because the uncleaned part will be a house for more bacteria. Make sure that you consider the skin’s pH balance too. Use a mild yet effective cleanser to do the job while preventing skin itching and irritation. If getting laser treatment to reduce the size of your pores is unaffordable, cleaning your skin will be one of the other best options.

Not toning your skin

Some people might forget how to tone their skin. It is a good routine for skin maintenance. Toner is like a cleanser that removes impurities like dirt and grime. The difference is, it gets rid of the small, unnoticeable traces completely. It is also a way to prepare your skin for moisturizing. Including this in your daily skincare routine can help you a lot.

Not moisturizing often

Moisturizing is more important than people think it is. Moisturizing can help skin look and stay young. The sensitive skin parts that need moisturizing are the neck, chest, ears, and face. According to the University of Tennessee Medical center, these areas of the skin shed more than the others. More moisture is needed to keep it healthy and looking young.

To properly moisturize your skin, follow these tips:

  1. Don’t take a bath with hot water. Hot showers and baths are bad  for the skin
  2. Use mild soaps only. Other soaps can be a cause of dry skin.
  3. Drink a lot of water.
  4. Buy yourself a humidifier. Humid air can help moisturize the skin.
  5. Don’t rub your towel on your skin when drying. Pat your skin gently instead.

Not using exfoliants weekly

Exfoliation is the process of removing stubborn, dead skin cells to replace them with new ones. It is a way to let the old skin fade away. Doing some of the routines mentioned earlier when not exfoliating first is a problem. It can hinder your progress to better skin if dead skins are still there. You may have already done exfoliating your skin before. There is a proper way to exfoliate. Using a scrub is one effective way of exfoliating. Rubbing it gently to the skin for 30 seconds and then rinsing it with lukewarm water is enough. This routine is helpful, but you never have to do this every day. Exfoliating too often can make your skin develop more problems. It makes skin more sensitive and prone to bacteria. Exfoliating once or twice a week is enough.

Not using sunscreen while you are outside

Not putting sunscreen in your skin is arguably the most important and the most neglected part. If you never use sunscreen, you might as well neglect your whole skincare routine. Not only can it change your skin tone, but also it can harm it in the worst way possible. The rays from the sun are harmful, especially during broad daylight. Prolonged exposure to the sun can make the skin age prematurely. Getting skin cancer is possible too. Lotions with Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 are enough protection for your skin. Remember to re-apply the lotion every two hours if you are exposed to the sun continuously.

The skin is as important as the other organs of the body. It is crucial to take care of it properly while we can. Hopefully, you can include some of the new knowledge in your daily routine. You never have to miss a skincare routine as long as you follow these tips.
